Why was my account charged American Depositary Receipt (ADR) fees?

If a stock is issued outside of the US but is traded on the US markets through ADR, the ADR depositary bank will charge ADR fees.

ADR fees are custody fees, sometimes referred to as Depositary Services Fees, to compensate the depositary banks for inventorying the non-US shares and performing registration, compliance, dividend payment, communication, and record-keeping services.

ADR fees generally range from USD0.01 to USD0.03 per share. However, this amount may differ among the available ADRs. Please refer to your ADR prospectus for specific information. You can do so by searching for the prospectus using SEC's EDGAR Company Search.
